Ignoring Valentine’s Day

St. Valentine’s Day fell on the sabbath. I feel safe in ignoring it. The literature of love is vaster even than the literature on Lincoln. One makes recommendations in this area only if one longs to become a figure of fun. The best line I have ever read on the subject was delivered by Will Barrett in Walker Percy’s Last Gentleman (I quote from memory): “I read The Art of Loving. It didn’t change my life.”
